From my inbox

Hello everyone!  Hope you're having a creative day!
I am helping Alyssa Light in her booth at the CreativFestival today and Jen is in the studio -- Drop by and say hi!   Make sure to ask her lots of tough questions *wink*

I will be back in the studio this afternoon and I will be BROADCASTING TODAY on USTREAM.   I will post the time I start on Twitter and Facebook so you know but be sure to check the channel later this afternoon to see if I'm "on".  I have something I'm experimenting with -- a resin AND painting project...  and I would like to do another sample for the Coast to Coast show next weekend.   Hope you check it out!

Speaking of USTREAM broadcasts....   I received something in my inbox this week that I'd like to share with you.   This journal page was inspired by ....   well, can you guess?
Yes, my USTREAM broadcast last week!  LOVE IT!!

This is what she wrote: "The other photos are of a spread in my art journal that was inspired by both you and Effy (another USTREAMER who watches my broadcasts too *smile*) ....  I know that my proportions are all wrong, but I still like it.  =)

AND so you should, Athala!  It's fabulous.  I was marveling at your drawing --I saw your pictures before I read your comment and let me tell you that I loved the fact you drew the people...  and that they don't look like defunct manga experiments like mine would.  I used an old book, remember?  LOL  You are inspiring me!  I need to practice drawing people more --  CONGRATULATIONS and thanks for sharing!

Hope you're having a creative day everyone!!
See you this afternoon!!!

Spirit Girl flies a Kite

Painting again....   samples this time but FUN samples!!
Here is a canvas (6x12) I created yesterday to showcase some of my studio products when I'm at the Coast to Coast show in Mississauga next weekend.  Whatcha think?  Ain't she cute?   Love Suzi Blu Stamps!
This is Spirit Girl by Suzi Blu.  I painted her with the new Letraset Aqua Markers.  I was a little skeptical about a watercolour marker but Whoa Baby!  Me LIKE!   Love the vibrancy of these markers.  I'll have to show you in a future USTREAM broadcast ...  but I digress....  back to the painting.

If you look closely - you will see I collaged the background with scrapping papers (She Art paper by Pink Paisley as I had some left over scraps from ScrapFest) used some Crafter's Workshop templates and paint, stamped with Christy Tomlinson's She Art background stamps, used Light Molding Paste  to add some "flower" dimension on the "ground" Spirit Girl is standing on AND then highlighted with Terra Paint from Viva Decor, some Golden Bead Gel (on and under the clouds) and some Inka Gold too!  Phew!  Loved every minute of it!  Hope you like!

I loved Spirit Girl so much I decided to use her image on a "smile" card to my young pen pal -- Here's what I made her (mom, please don't show her until it arrives!!)  I painted her with the Aqua Markers too.. so pretty.

Have a creative day everyone!!
Here are the products I used in the canvas piece - we are currently updating the online store to include the Letraset Aquamarkers...  stay tuned! *smile*

From my inbox

Trish sent me some photos of a Journal Page she worked on.  She mentioned it while we were broadcasting on USTREAM last Friday (April 20, 2012) so I thought I'd share it here too *smile*

Check these out...  fun Coffee Filter Flowers!  Here's what she wrote:
"I sprayed coffee filters with the Adirondack sprays I bought at your shop and made them into three different kinds of flowers. Then I made a mixed media background and adhered the flowers with the new PPA glue I bought from you at Scrapfest."

LOVE THESE!!!   So pretty and fine -- coffee filters are delicate like tissue paper.  Very Cool!
Thanks for sharing, Trish!  Stunning!

Have a creative day everyone!

Painting for the Love of it!

Words cannot describe my need to paint this week and I finally had the chance to put aside all the "business" things for a bit and just CREATE! Oh how I missed that.

Here is the fruit of that labour. Jen calls it my finger painting - teehee

Yes, I used my fingers for parts of it but if you look closely you will also see some template and pen work going on. Lots and lots of scrumptious layers. I was in my happy place.

I wish for you some creative play this week -- it's good for the soul!
Have a creative day everyone!

Happy Earth Day!

Yesterday was indeed a creative day for me...  I created 3 projects that I will share with you here...  last night's USTREAM canvas posted last night and now today's Upcycled Necklace!!
These are scraps of papers from the Christy Tomlinson "She Art" line from Pink Paislee.  LOVE!  I folded strips of the scrap papers and rolled them up.  Protected them with some spray gloss varnish and then strung them with some leather cording I had left over from yet another project!  Easy Peasy and oh so fun to wear!  Soooooooooo me!!

Have a wonderful Earth Day....  hope you get a chance to upcycle something today too!
If you do -- post it here in the comments section!!

ScrapFest Class #4

and I am going to LOVE teaching this....
Mixed Media backgrounds and stamping with PanPastels!
Yep!! We are going to be using some of the NEW 7 Dots Studio papers (the gorgeous ones imported from Poland) and adding layers with PanPastels and inks with Crafter's Workshop templates and Donna Downey foam and rubber stamps. Yummmmmy! I know you can't see it here but these are mounted on a MDF Canvas. Super Cute

Are you excited for ScrapFest?

Just a reminder - or if you didn't see the previous post, here's how to get involved in my classes at ScrapFest: http://www.thearthousestudio.ca/2012/04/getting-ready-for-scrapfest.html

Classes #2 and #3 for ScrapFest

These CARD (hint hint) images are TOP SECRET ... well... as far as the internet is concerned because they are based on 2 of 3 cards that will be printed in the Summer Issue of the Canadian Scrapbooker... yes, you ScrapFesters will get a sneek peek of what's to come in that issue. Better yet... create something very similar to what will be in it! How fun is that?

Both cards will be using my stamps from myStamp Box

One is also using a new Canvas Corp line called "coffee" .. bet you can't guess which stamp set we'll be using for that one *wink*
and the other will be using sprays to create your own pattern paper and so we can use stamps in the foreground and the background.. Can't wait to showcase these myStamp Box stamps with you!

one more exciting class tomorrow.... *smile*

Have a creative day!

Getting Ready for ScrapFest!

Are you going to ScrapFest?

We can't wait to be there!
Jessica and I have been super busy getting all the class kits together. Class Kits? Yes, CLASS kits ...and you didn't think I was teaching at ScrapFest! *wink*

I beta tested an idea in Oshawa last fall ... having a classroom in my booth. Well, I had so much fun with it and people seemed to like it sooooooo... I'm bringing it to Kitchener!

Here's how it works:
Come by the Art House Studio booth (#500) to get a class ticket. Tickets are FREE but there will only be one ticket given to each person. Although I will be running classes all weekend, I am limited to 12 people / class and there are 12 classes total. (144 people). As I need to make as many seats available for ticket holders and these classes are not set up as a traditional make n takes, tickets are for people 11 years and older. I don't have the appropriate time to dedicate to small children in a classroom set up and need to keep seats available to ScrapFest ticket holders (thank you for your understanding about this).

Get your tickets early! They will go fast
  • Friday tickets will be given out when the show opens at 4pm - Classes start at 4:30
  • Saturday tickets - at least 10 tickets for each class will be reserved for Saturday distribution so that there will be lots of tickets available for Saturday only marketplace guests - Classes start at 9:30
All tickets are on a first come, first served basis.
Ticket holders are requested to be in the booth 10 mins before the start of their class to avoid losing their space to someone waiting. All seats will be filled at the start of the class. It is your responsibility to be on time.

Didn't get a ticket? You can still join us ... there will be lots of space around the classroom for you to watch and even ask questions if you like. No secrets here!! Love to have you join us... even if your just looking for a little shopping break *wink*

There are 4 different classes being offered in Kitchener... Here's one:
Kanzashi Flowers
Learn how to create some amazing fabric flowers using the Clover tools that will literally have you "stitching by numbers". My article in the current issue of the Canadian Scrapbooker shows you some of the ways you can use these little babies.. as hair clips, in home decor, as jewelry and embellishments. Come see just how easy it is! The class includes all supplies including a duel clip that will allow you to wear the flower in your hair or on your jacket! So fun!! There are two classes only -- one for the Blue Flower, one for the Pink.....

another class posted tomorrow!! *wink*

Thursday, April 05, 2012

PLEASE NOTE
The studio will be CLOSED for the Easter Long Weekend
(Friday-Monday)
and will re-open on Tuesday at 11am

Have a great weekend with family and friends!
See you next week!
