Jen's All Heart

Here you go, USTREAM watchers..  this is Jen's Heart Canvas that she created online when I was at CHA.   Didn't she do a great job?
Jen had a little bit of technical difficulties (no sound) - we got it fixed up did then she didn't hit the record.  Bummer!  I really would have loved to see her do this...  and hear what she "spilled"  hehe
I promised on my show last Friday that I'd post this for you all to see.

Her canvas can be seen IRL in my studio window!  Perfect for a Valentine's display, don't you think?

Have a creative day!!

CropFest Registration goes LIVE tonight!

Are you ready, Barrie??  CropFest is coming to you and I am so please to announce that I will be teaching 2 classes at the event!  YAY!

These are my classes:
Note to Self
A 12x12 Layout Class (Saturday May 4 - 10am - 11:30am)
Class Description
Join Karen to create this layered and textural 12x12 scrapbook layout using some pretty fabulous 7 Dots Studio Papers! Designed by the talented Anna Dabrowska, these papers from "7 Dots" come all the way from Poland and lend themselves extremely well to some "feminine grunge" techniques. They are so fun to work with and I hope you enjoy this class as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Make Your Mark
Monoprinting Card Class  (Saturday May 4 - 2pm- 3:30pm)

Class Description
Create gorgeous monoprinted backgrounds for some pretty fabulous greeting cards. Karen will introduce you to the wonderful world of Gelli Printing where you will make colourful backgrounds to use instead of patterned paper on some stamped cards. You'll be using stencils and a variety of items you'll find around your home. Come have some fun experimenting with colour and texture and make some one of a kind cards.
Karen will provide the paper, mini Gelli plates and items to make impressions including foam stamps, embossing folders, bubble wrap, plastic wrap, stencils, and more

For more information about CropFest...   please check out their website.
ONLY 85 Crop Spaces are available.   Class Registrations will be OPEN TO THE PUBLIC in March!!

Hope you're having a Creative Day!  Stay warm!

A little bit of Plastered Luminescence.....

Today we had some pretty FABULOUS ladies in the studio for the launch of "Plastered Luminescence" a class that uses LuminArte's SILKS on an etched plaster canvas board.

This class was available to take here in the studio today (and I have been getting requests to run it again) and as an ONLINE CLASS.   Didn't these ladies do an AWESOME job??   I can't believe I didn't take more photos before the last step so you can see the details.  I wish I could show you them all!!  We'll have to wait for these girls to email me pics of their finished (DRY) projects!!  Eeks!!  So exciting!

THANK YOU ladies for coming in to participate in the class and I hope all of you who registered for this online class have as much fun playing with the SILKS as we did!!

Online students should have their emails now.  If you don't, please let me know (it looks like you've all received them okay).   Look for some supplement videos coming your way next week too!!  I want to share some more tips that we discussed in class today.  HAPPY PAINTING!

Okay everyone - This is the first in a monthly series of CLASSES that will be offered here in the studio AND ONLINE for those who can not make it here to "Sunny Canada". *Smile*

This one I'm calling "Plastered Luminescence"

This is a MDF Canvas Panel that has been plastered, etched and painted with ...can you guess? ... Luminarte's Silks Acrylic Glaze!  LOVE how these colours POP and look like metal when painted over a dark surface and varnished for protection.  LOVE LOVE LOVE how these paints layer, build dimension and shine.  I hope you join me in the discovery!!

The class will be held here in the studio on SATURDAY JANUARY 19 at 12:30pm and will be available ONLINE January 19th as well.  People who sign up for the class before Jan 19th will be sent a link to the video and all other information via email by noon EST.

Journal Girl......

Okay - by popular request I am sharing my "Journal Girl" here with you today! *smile*

I am on a mission to be happy with FACES so I have been practicing different ways of doing them.  I started a "faces journal" in a Dylusions Creative Journal to keep my try-sees (sp?) all in one place.  I love it!!  This is where I did this figure.

The girl's face was completely shaded to get the look she has.  There were no sketch lines , no nothing ...  I used a picture of a girl I liked and used it as a guide to where the shading should go and...   this is what I got.  NOW...   I HAVE TO PRACTICE MORE!!   cause I don't think I would be able to do this again with any more ease.   It's a process - one that I am enjoying!

For those who are interested.  The background is watercolour.  The girl was silhouetted with Gesso and then shaded in with Prisma Premier Pencils and blended with solvent and a paper stomp.  The foreground was some Dylusions ink sprays (Turquoise)  though a Donna Downey Poppies & Peonies Stencil (Mix 6) and an old Plastic Alpha Stencil - Yummy

I did this during our last ART JOURNAL DAY here in the studio.  There is another journal day THIS THURSDAY...  if you are interested in coming, contact me in the studio and I will save you a space.  Love to create with you.  Its a studio fee only ($2/hour) come and play with us.  Maybe even do a face!  *giggle*

Have a creative day!

Mixed Media Quilted Name Tag - USTREAM

I decided that I was going to go to the CHA (Craft and Hobby trade show) next weekend SO....   I thought my USTREAM broadcast would be the perfect opportunity to create a name badge to wear at the show (and yes, it's a business card holder too with a pocket in the back *BIG smile*)  I'm soooo happy I created it!  It was so much fun!  Thanks to everyone who watched the stream live.  LOVE how it turned out.  Completely me!

Those who watched got a first hand glimpse at my trial and error style *wink*
I tried painting the house below (one of my "lovely houses" stamps with myStamp BOX) with some Silks from Luminarte on an unprimed piece of canvas.   Love the Silks but had to play with water saturation while painting on this substrate.  It's  ALL good!   LOVE the house I finished with.   So dimensional and yes, luminescent *smile*

Pardon my stitching, *smile* but I did get out the embroidery floss for this project.... and some FELT too!!  Love my little heart embellie!

and then... once it was all sewn together I added a beaded chain to finish it off.  Those orange flower beads were beads I created a while ago using an Ikea ice cube tray and some UTEE.  Jen and I thought they were perfect for this.  Hope you think so too!

Can't wait to show this off at the show!!  If you are going - I'll see you there.  Be sure to say HI!!

Missed the Live Stream?   Here is the recorded video of the evenings "happenings"  ENJOY!
**Wanna skip past the "fussing" around with and get right to the project?   Start viewing at 28:30**

Hope you're having a creative day!
