Plastered Fleurs (USTREAM)

What messy fun!
Got a little "plastered" with this Pinterest inspired project last night - plaster coated artificial flowers.   Love how they turned out -- especially after painting them with the Silks by LuminArte.   Stunning!

Materials Used --   pretty simple....
 - ArtPlaster (Activa) sold in store, not online at the moment
 - Artificial Flowers
 - Silks (LuminArte) - colours used:( left votive holder) Carmen, Solar Gold and Interference Red (right votive holder) Key Lime, Teal Zircon and African Jade.

Linda's "Cast Art" - USTREAM Broadast

 

I received an email yesterday from Linda Kittmer asking if I'd be interested in having a new/different "canvas" to paint on during my Friday evening Broadcast....   she broke her wrist in a cycling accident and had a white fibreglass cast begging for (as she called) a Karen original.  LOL  I thought that was hilarious!  Not that she hurt herself...   but that she wanted me to paint her cast online.   hehehe...   it HAD to be done!

What a wonderful evening painting a rounded, ATTACHED to something canvas. :)THANK YOU Linda for the suggestion and coming in and letting me play.

"Echos" of Colour - USTREAM

"Echos" of Colour

I so enjoyed creating this canvas on USTREAM tonight!  THANK YOU to all who joined me live and I see that quite a few of you have also watched it recorded too!  Fabulous!

LOVE how it turned out.  I wish you could see it in person.  So lovely.   It was inspired by a technique I saw used by Alex Skinner that removed white paint to reveal some fabulous colour under it  ...  I immediately envisioned trying the technique with my favourite Crafter's Workshop Stencils.  There are LOTS used in this canvas but featured is "Echos" designed by Julie Balzer.

Mixed Media Quilted Name Tag - USTREAM

I decided that I was going to go to the CHA (Craft and Hobby trade show) next weekend SO....   I thought my USTREAM broadcast would be the perfect opportunity to create a name badge to wear at the show (and yes, it's a business card holder too with a pocket in the back *BIG smile*)  I'm soooo happy I created it!  It was so much fun!  Thanks to everyone who watched the stream live.  LOVE how it turned out.  Completely me!

Those who watched got a first hand glimpse at my trial and error style *wink*

I tried painting the house below (one of my "lovely houses" stamps with myStamp BOX) with some Silks from Luminarte on an unprimed piece of canvas.   Love the Silks but had to play with water saturation while painting on this substrate.  It's  ALL good!   LOVE the house I finished with.   So dimensional and yes, luminescent *smile*

Pardon my stitching, *smile* but I did get out the embroidery floss for this project.... and some FELT too!!  Love my little heart embellie!

and then... once it was all sewn together I added a beaded chain to finish it off.  Those orange flower beads were beads I created a while ago using an Ikea ice cube tray and some UTEE.  Jen and I thought they were perfect for this.  Hope you think so too!

Souls Take Flight - USTREAM Broadcast

Thank you for watching me create this canvas last night.  As always, I loved creating with you!

For those of you who didn't get the opportunity to watch live, this canvas (named by Ms Kelly Panacchi - who did watch last night) was inspired by the events of the day.   A tribute (of sorts) to the 26 souls who died in CT yesterday.

As requested by the viewers last night, I will be creating some note cards of this canvas and will offer them for sale so that the proceeds can be sent to the families of the victims.  I will also offer up the original canvas for "silent auction" with the proceeds going to the families as well.  So, please watch for more information about this when the cards are created and an established fund is in place for the families.

One Starry Canvas

Thanks to those who were able to log onto USTREAM to watch me create this fun Starry Canvas. I had oodles of fun making it - as always!  Painting makes me smile!

The only thing I added after the record of last night's broadcast was some metallic paint applied with some bubble wrap.

Ho Ho Ho ... A Tree for My Studio Window Display - USTREAM

 Okay...  last night was fun.  I thought I was totally crazy for broadcasting the night before my Grand Opening (which is in just a few hours.... Saturday 10 - 4) but I am sooooo happy I did.  I needed to do something creative and this hit the spot!

This is a 24x36 canvas that I created using Crafter's Workshop Templates, Perfect Pigments from USArtQuest and some silks by LuminArte  ...  oh...  there there are some Faber Castell Big Brush Pens and UTEE in there too *smile*

 Love it!!
Come check it out in the studio window at our Grand Opening in Cambridge!!

Saturday 10 - 4 (I said the right, *wink*) we'll have some nibblies, a chance to play with some product in our make n takes, and there just might even be a gift with purchase .....   you never know *wink*.

Asian inspired textural canvas - USTREAM Follow

I had such a marvelous time on USTREAM last night chatting with the gals and creating this sample canvas using the Bird Song Paper line from Graphic 45 and some wood embellishments from Prima Marketing and Paper Butterflies from Petaloo.

Yes, I said sample canvas.  I will be displaying this alongside the paper line in my booth at ScrapFest in Oshawa next weekend.  If you are going, be sure to drop by the Art House Studio booth to see it in person!!

Here is a closer view of some of the texture.   See the molding paste through the "fish scales" template from Crafter's Workshop?  And look at that colour! Yummo!   LOVE LOVE LOVE Silks by Luminarte.  Its the layering effects these give that really make it pop!  ... and the coloured UTEE rocks my world too!  *wink*

"Time flies when you texturize".... USTREAM recap

LOL...  I still can't believe that came out of my mouth while on USTREAM broadcasting live last night.  LOL.  Crazy Crazy!!

I can't tell you how much fun I had simply creating again for the first time in weeks.  I REALLY REALLY REALLY missed it!

I was inspired by a youtube video posted by RachO113  - she totally got my juices flowing again after my creative (moving) hiatus.   My hands are STILL gluey.  *smile*   I am itching to create some more but I have to wait

 This morning I came into the studio to finish the piece.   I built up the left corner with some texture paste and added another cat, a lamp post and some spider embellishments and then went over them all with the silks and layered more UTEE too.   You might notice that I added some gold coloured UTEE to the canvas which, in my opinion, helped make it pop!

I added some words - "There's something strange in the neighbourhood"  (any Ghostbuster's fans out there? *wink*)  I thought it was fitting .... *smile*

Hope you like!   I put it in my front window display.....

Life is GOOD!

USTREAM follow up - Ruffle Necklace and Shrink Charms

Hello Everyone!
thank you so much for joining me last night on USTREAM.  I love creating these broadcasts and LOVE that you join me!

Last night I created this Ruffled Necklace using some scrap muslin, my "striped stem" stamp set from myStamp BOX and some Lumiere paints (and my sewing machine)

And then I created some Shrink embellishments to dangle from another chain with this necklace and for a flower clip shown here:

I think this might just be attached to the necklace...  or perhaps be in my hair.  hummm....  *wink*

Because of technical difficulties, last night's broadcast was recorded in 2 parts.  Here they are.  HAVE FUN!

Oh Balls! Ustream Follow Up

Well, what can I say about this evening...  interesting!! and full of chuckles!  THANK YOU to all of you who were able to join me live this evening on USTREAM as I created this fabric flower to wear at CHA next month.   Too funny!

I created the pattern on the canvas with Textile Paints, Markers and PITT Pens, did a little stamping and then sewed it onto some Armature Wire to create the flower shape.  Add a "ball" and there you have it!! *wink*

USTREAM ReCap - Pan Pastel Goodness!

I had a lot of fun creating with PanPastels last night on USTREAM.  

Thanks to Michelle (who was inspired by Donna Downey's PanPastel From the Heart Class she took here a couple of weeks ago) who brought her latest project into the studio to play with, I couldn't resist the urge to PLAY!!.  She totally got my PanPastel juices flowing!!

Do More of What Makes You Happy - USTREAM

Okay -- I loved creating this canvas inspired by the lovely and talented Stephanie Ackerman  who very graciously joined us on USTREAM tonight!  Thank you, Stephanie.  So glad you could join us!!

So here's the story - I saw a canvas that Stephanie posted on facebook that truely inspired me, so I commented and asked her if I could create my own version of it on my USTREAM broadcast tonight.  She said yes and voila...  this is what I created!  A canvas within a canvas.....

I wrote a quote out on watercolour paper and then used my watercolours to "rainbow" colour it.  Painted a 12x24 canvas with a couple of little textural elements in gesso and molding paste and then cut up and adhered the watercolour painting.  Add some PanPastel shading and there you have it!  A canvas that does make me happy!

My internet did cut out on me tonight so there are two vids here.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed creating them!!
