Some "kumihimo" makin'

It's here!  The latest issue of the Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine!

In this issue, my article is all about things you can create by upcycling old tshirts!  Perfect for Earth Day, don't you think? *smile*   With tshirt I rag quilted a layout, made a cover to a mini album, created a scarf and ...drumroll please...  designed a necklace featuring a Kumihimo Braid.  This is what the following video is all about -- how to create the Kumihimo Braid.

Kumihimo means braid in Japanese.  In the video, I will be showing you the classic 8 strand braiding technique using old tshirt.  You can adapt this to use any fibre, yarn, hemp, ribbon, etc etc etc....    This one is going to eventually showcase a mixed media pendent (you'll have to stay tuned for that in a future post *smile*)  Enjoy the video!!   And don't forget to pick up your copy of the magazine next time you're at the studio!

Have a creative day!

Canadian Scrapbooker Winter 2011 - Feature Video

I am thrilled to say that the Winter Issue of the Canadian Scrapbooker has shipped and stores and subscribers will be receiving their issues shortly.

I hope you enjoy my first ever article with them - A Scrapbooker's Gift!
I won't say to much more about the article yet ... at least until I have it in my hot little hands -- BUT I will say that every issue will also include a link to a special project video based on the technique that I share in the magazine. I think that's pretty cool.

This is the first video. SO, grab a cup of coffee, sit back and enjoy. We'll be taking the "Create your own Styrofoam Stamp" technique (that is stepped out in the magazine) a little farther for you ladies and gents who are interested in mixing media. In this video I will show you how to stamp with your styrofoam stamp on muslin and then embellish it with needle felting and free-form stitching to create a fabulous applique image to place on a custom fabric book cover. Phew! That's a lot but I think you'll like!

Without further ado.... "Quiet on the set....... ACTION!"

*NOTE*
The Jean Fabric used in this project is one of my father's old denim shirts!

Products used in this video:
Styrofoam Plate - you can get free at your Grocer's
Jacquard Dye-na-Flow
Batting (Quilt, Cotton or Fleece)

Playing with Dye-na-Flow (pt1)

Just playing in the studio today because I was REALLY feeling the need to create something.

I recently got in some of Jaquard's Dye-na-Flow (liquid colour) to sell here in the studio because I LOVED playing with it at this year's Inspired event and I NEEDED (sound familiar) to get it! *wink*

Check back to see the progress.......

Remember This? (Video) *Updated*

These were some of the backgrounds that the girls in the Technique of the Month Club created this month. We had so much fun inking and spraying!!

Well, I mentioned in one of my comments in the earlier post that I would make a video on how I do this. So..... here it is.

Grab a coffee (it's 10 mins) and enjoy!!! If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Oh... and FYI -- Here is the background paper that I made in the Video!! :)

and here is a card that I created using it.....

Can you see the possibilities?

****** Since I posted this*********
I am very honoured that Jaime at Crafter's Workshop liked my video and POSTED IT on their Company Website! THANK YOU JAIME! You honour me!

Catalina Island.....

Sooooo pretty!
I loved walking around Catalina Island. It's what I imagine a small Mediterranean village to be like - especially with all the artful fired clay adornments on every building, bench and walkway -- check this out!

Some fabulous art pieces too - and quaint little boutiques and galleries. I even spoke to an artist that is bringing back the stone tile art that adorns the village. Meet Robin:

Gotta love meeting creative people. Art is everyone. Inspiration is everywhere.
Now go - create art!
